Recently Council asked what The City of Calgary can legally do to address the trend of temporary home rentals (such as Airbnb). Regulatory standards vary between cities, however concerns are the same – more car trips, potential late-night noise, increase in refuse, loss of potential revenue to hotels/B&Bs and impact on long term rentals. Many U.S. cities regulate both temporary home rentals and bed and breakfasts (B&B). Canadian cities do not regulate short term home rentals to the same degree.
