The 2015 Leaf & Pumpkin Composting Program

I hope everyone had a spooktacular Halloween this past weekend! But now that all the trick or treating is over, you’re probably wondering what to do with all your organic waste.

Luckily, The City of Calgary’s Leaf & Pumpkin Composting Program runs until Sunday, November 8 – which means only one more week to rake those leaves and take down those scary jack o’ lanterns before the deadline! You may bring your bagged leaves and pumpkins to any of the Leaf & Pumpkin Composting drop-off locations, where the material will be composted. This will help reduce greenhouse gases while creating nutrient-rich compost to help plants grow. This program is for residents only and no sod, branches, or rocks with be accepted through the program.

With 36 convenient drop-off locations throughout the city, there are two that would service the residents of Ward 13:

  • Shawnessy Community Park (Shawinigan Drive at Shawbrooke Close S.W.)
  • Woodbine Athletic Park (12625 24 Street S.W.)

If you do happen to miss the deadline, you are welcome to take your leaves and pumpkins to any of the three Calgary landfills. Learn more on Calgary landfill hours and locations here.
