I am pleased to announce that significant progress has been made in the planning of The City of Calgary’s Southwest Transitway project. The transitway, which is slated to begin construction in 2016, will span 22 kilometres, from downtown Calgary to the end of 24th Street SW in Woodbine. The transitway will tentatively be completed in the fall of 2018. The Southwest Transitway project, identified as a high priority in RouteAhead (the City’s 30-year Transit Plan), will provide a direct connection for people travelling to-and-from southwest communities and downtown. To date, no jurisdiction has ever made a breed ban work. Basically, all dogs can and will bite. The problem lies with responsible pet ownership. Well-trained, socialized and under-control dogs do not cause any issues in our community. When you ban a breed, people inclined to have a powerful dog for the wrong reasons simply select another power breed not banned and turn it into a monster. I am pleased to announce that new guidelines to apply for funding through the Ward Community Event Fund (WCEF) have been approved by the Coordinating Committee of the Office of the Councillors (CCCO), as part of Calgary City Council. These changes have been made in order to provide a more inclusive and holistic approach to supporting community events throughout our city. The approved changes will receive final approval from City Council in late June 2015.
