CALGARY, AB – August 11, 2015 A two-day music event that took place over the weekend of August 7 and 8, 2015 at Fort Calgary attracted anywhere from 14,000 – 20,000 people. Ride sharing companies have significant issues with regulatory compliance. As such, earlier this year I had asked Council to lobby for a provincial ride-hailing strategy which would help standardize the practice of app-based systems such as Uber. Yesterday, I am delighted to discover that Alberta’s Superintendent of Insurance has issued an advisory notice on ride sharing services, and the insurance risk they pose to Albertans. My notice of motion intended to look at vehicle insurance and driver qualifications for these transportation network companies, and to also look at this from a consumer protection perspective.
